The home births of my children inspired in me the belief that birth can be empowering and pleasurable, and with the right support can be an intimate family occasion, regardless of where you choose it to take place.
I live in Stevenage with my children. I am originally from Slovakia, grew up in New Zealand, and came to the UK in 2002 for a job I just had to have. Since then I have enjoyed a challenging and career as a microbiologist and account manager in the specialty chemicals industry. I really understand the pressures of balancing family and work life whilst not having family nearby. I am now surrounded by my wonderful extended family, and am very lucky to be able to do what I love, both in my ‘day job’ and my doula work supporting mothers and families.
I am also a certified Hypno Birthing practitioner and breastfeeding Peer Supporter.
I firmly believe that most women are able to birth their babies and breastfeed safely and successfully if they are given the right continuity of support and conditions that make them feel safe, something that is often difficult to find in our current over-stretched maternity system.
I am passionate about helping women prepare for a birth experience they are at peace with.
As a doula I am here to help parents access evidence-based information so that they can make their own informed decisions. And to help them create the right conditions for safe and empowering birth and a positive start to parenting.
Support leading up to, during and after a birth can take many forms – from fact finding, morale up-keeping, rebozo sifting, to brow mopping, back massaging, sacrum pressing and so on.
A post-natal doula can be invaluable in those early days with a newborn, whether it is your first child or not. It is usually to do those things for you that your mother, sister or best friend might do for you. It could be as simple as holding your baby while you have a bath, or making up some meals for your freezer while you feed.
I am a Recognised Birth and Mentored Postnatal Doula.
