Linda Hobbs

I was born in Cambridge in 1959 and married Alan in 1983. I now live in Stretham, about 4 miles south of Ely. I am mum to Mathew, born in 1984 and Samantha, born in 1987. I’m also a doting Nana to Thomas born in 2016.

My background is in childcare. I am a trained NNEB Nursery Nurse and have worked in a variety of roles including nanny, child-minder, key worker on a children’s behavioural unit and a reception class assistant.

I did my doula training in Oct 2000 and have worked as a postnatal doula since January 2001. I have supported over 90 families since then, all with differing individual needs.

I joined Doula UK at its inception in 2001 and I was the Regional Representative for Cambridgeshire for two years. I was then the Treasurer for 5 years. I have just agreed (Jan 2020) to become Doula UK rep for Cambridgeshire again, alongside another doula colleague.

As a postnatal doula I am practically minded. I also read a good story, iron a good shirt and bake a mean cake. I have lots of experience with twin families. I see my role as that of empowerment. I am there to encourage the family to parent in the way that is right for them. I’m not there to tell a family what to do or how to do it, rather to nurture and guide them into finding their own way.

Most of all, I am committed to making the time after birth as positive, enjoyable and stress free for the whole family as possible.
