Marie De Jonge

Marie de Jonge cambsHello, My name is Marie, I am a mentored birth and postnatal doula and I live in Saffron Walden with my husband and our son who is a little bundle of energy that keeps us on our toes at all times.

I used to be a backpacking lawyer, moving around the world for 6 years mainly working for charities and in a Pro Bono department of a firm in Sydney, Australia before moving back to the UK when I was 26 weeks pregnant. Pregnancy and motherhood changed my life and led me to my calling as a doula and I have never been happier.

I completed the Developing Doulas course in 2015 and it taught me so much more than I could have hoped for. I am so grateful to be surrounded by such an amazing support network of doulas and birth workers, I learn from them every day. I am in awe of the whole process of pregnancy and birth and the amazing strength of women inspires me every day. I am truly honoured to support women and their families through this most special time in their lives.

My Philosophy

All women deserve respect, to have their voice heard and access to evidence based information. No woman should be silenced, coerced or scared in to doing something they do not want; they should be presented with ALL of the available options. I support all women no matter what their choices.
I aim to be a constant source of emotional support in an age when most women do not receive continuity of care from birth professionals. As your doula, I listen to everything you have to say and help you get as much information as you need to make informed decisions about the birth of your baby. I want you to feel empowered and confident no matter how you choose to bring your baby in to the world.
During the birth I will help protect your birth space and create the type of environment that you hope for. I will provide encouragement, comfort measures and practical measures based on your birth preferences.
After the birth I will help you bond with your baby, help with feeding if needed and help you settle in to life as a new mother.
